State Bank Reduces Foreign Exchange Limit for International Travelers: Pakistan

State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has reduced foreign currency cash carrying limits for travel purposes. Persons travelling outside Pakistan (Except to Afghanistan) are allowed to take out of Pakistan US Dollars or equivalent thereof in other foreign currencies as per the following limits:

a. Individuals with age 18 years and above (adults) can carry $5000 per visit.
b. Those below the age of 18 years (minors) can carry $2,500 per visit.

Further, the annual ceiling to carry US dollars for adults and minors shall be USD30,000 and USD15,000, respectively.

Annual limits will be for a calander year starting with year 2023.

SBP has advised banks to ensure that the use of debit/ credit cards for international transactions is aligned with the profile of card holders and for their personal needs only.

SBP has also imposed an annual limit of USD30,000 for individuals for international transactions.

SBP observed that Debit/credit cards used by holders are not aligned with holders profile.

Persons travelling out of Pakistan are required to make a declaration to the customs authorities at the time of leaving Pakistan.
