FBR issues procedure for licensing of brand names

  • by

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) issued a Sales Tax General Order No. 07 of 2021 on 3rd August 2021 specifying procedure for all specified sectors for the registration of their brand names before selling their products.

Licensing of brand name has been made mandatory for specified sectors through the Finance Act, 2021. These sectors are mentioned in Rule ZF of Sales Tax Rules, 2006.

All existing and new manufacturers of specified sectors are required to register the brand names of each product with FBR before selling the same in the market.

An application must be submitted to the Project Director (Track and Trace System), FBR, along with the supportive documents.

Manufacturers are not allowed to sell their products in the market without having their brand registered with the FBR. However, they may be allowed to sell their products from the date of application’s submission.
